Our four Across Poland 2009 Mission teams had 42 volunteer missionaries, representing these seven Kentucky churches: Memorial Baptist, Westside Baptist, First Baptist and Flint Baptist in Murray, Lakeview Baptist in Benton, Cynthiana Baptist in Cynthiana and Hurstbourne Baptist in Louisville.
We had over 80 Polish volunteers serving as translators, group leaders, worship singers and musicians, activity helpers and as wonderful cooks! We had hoped a British team would come help lead the camp in Wisla. They were not able to come so the Polish youth group with several adult volunteers led the camp.
Combined, we had over 400 children attend the five camps. Over 70 children prayed to accept Jesus Christ into their hearts as Savior and Lord... Praise God!!!
One thing we were excited to see in all locations was so many young Poles joining in and serving as volunteer helpers. The youth of the churches caught a vision of what a ministry team is all about, while serving with and observing the Americans. We believe that God used our teams to light a fire in the young adults and youth of the churches! This generation of Polish young adults is hungry for a “participatory” Christianity and through our camps they discovered that God uses ordinary people, like themselves, to do His extraordinary Kingdom work!
This generation of Polish young adults is what I call the “First western” generation. They have grown up not knowing the suffering under communism. They have optimism and hope for their futures and are very open to new things. They have grown up with a “western perspective.” We received great affirmation in all locations that this generation wants good programs and resources for their children and they are open to Evangelical churches providing these… a huge change from previous generations! In every location, we had parents saying how happy and thankful they were we came. We believe this is a unique time in Poland’s history with a unique opportunity!
